WELCOME TO OUR ONLINE 4-WEEK GENERATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP Poetry of the Elements
Why do the classical four elements (earth, air, fire, and water)—grouped as a set by the Presocratic philosopher Empedocles in 450 BC—continue to capture our imagination? And what happens when we, as poets, enter a poetic dialogue with these primordial substances?

We’d like to offer a gentle reminder that because this is a space for fresh, raw expression, it is important to be kind and supportive toward your fellow poets.
This is not a critique workshop; our goal is to generate poetry together in a safe environment. Please join us with this spirit in mind, ready to nurture both your own voice and the voices of those writing alongside you.

You are invited to print these pages in advance—scribble in the margins, and mark them up as you wish.
While becoming familiar with the readings beforehand is optional, these works serve as the foundation for our sessions. For your convenience, we will also display the key poems on-screen during our live time together.
